The paintings of David Rhodes are a unique
blend of brilliant natural colors and dramatic spontaneous representations of
the desert landscape shaped by countless centuries of exposure to the elements. In many of his paintings David uses
the same forces of water and air as nature does to create the unusual and beautiful
formations populating much of the southwest desert. The results of this technique are the
same in his artwork as they are on the actual landscape. Of the desert landscape he comments,
ÒOn the desert you can see any shape and any color.Ó Describing his work David states, ÒMy art
reflects an appreciation of the natural erosion, randomness and symmetry, myriad of
colors, infinite shapes, openness and confinement, plainness and complex
beauty of places in the West. I
strive to emulate the spirit of a place and create its vision in the minds of
those who view my art by defining space and suggesting in progress change
rather than drafting exact detail.Ó
